Foreigners staying in Japan for a period exceeding 90 days are required to complete foreigner registration.
As a general rule, registration should be completed in person by an individual over the age of 16. If the individual concerned is under the age of 16, registration should be completed by either a parent or other member of the family aged over 16.
New Registration

Registering a Baby
○Period in which registration is to be made
・Within 60 days of birth

Confirmation of Registration
○Period in which registration is to be made
・over 16 years - within 30 days of relevant date
・under 16 years - within 30 days of becoming 16
○Necessary Items
・Travel Documents (where applicable)
・Alien Registration Card
・ 2 ID photos (4.5 x 3.5cm)
Amendment of Registration
○Period in which registration is to be made
・Within 14 days of a change of details
○Necessary Items
・Alien Registration Card
・Document proving the change of details (name, nationality, occupation, workplace, residency entitlement, period of stay etc)
Notification of Moving-in
○Period in which registration is to be made
・Within 14 days of moving to the city
○Necessary Items
・Alien Registration Card
Change of Address
○Period in which registration is to be made
・Within 14 days of moving within the city
○Necessary Items
